Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions:

Who is EDI?
The Electronic Discovery Institute (“EDI”) is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to education, leadership, service, advocacy and research at the intersection of law and technology.
Who are the faculty and how are they selected?
The EDI Distance Learning Initiative offers unprecedented access to a diverse and distinguished faculty of more than 100 of the nation’s leading judges, attorneys, information management professionals, technology experts and litigation support professionals. Faculty members are appointed by EDI’s Board of Directors based on their depth and range of qualified expertise in subjects specific to each course’s curriculum.
Why did EDI create the Distance Learning Initiative?
EDI believes that leading education and training should be accessible to practitioners without hefty travel requirements and CLE registration funds. Modern legal practice requires an understanding of the entire spectrum of practice in legal technology, data security and information law. No student should suffer financial burden to gain access to such knowledge. As such, affordability is one of the core principles that drives EDI’s Distance Learning Initiative. A near-zero registration fee provides a year’s access to the 40 core courses, the course materials and selection of elective courses.
How do I enroll?

What does this program cost?
The registration fee is just $1. $1 grants you access to our core curriculum from the leading law and technology practitioners in the world. Combine $1 with your efforts outlined below to receive your EDI Discovery Practice Certificate. EDI will ask you to attest in a signed declaration that you completed all of the requirements personally.
Why $1?
The nominal $1 paywall allows EDI to verify that you are indeed a human being. The registration process permits us to limit the creation of ghost accounts for users that have no interest in completing the program. EDI does not store payment card information. Our payment system is managed by Stripe. You can learn more about how Stripe processes payments at https://support.stripe.com.
Is there an ongoing subscription or renewal fee?
No, there are no ongoing subscription or renewal fees. In order to maintain a “current” status, however, users must complete and pass (70%) at least two 60-minute elective programs annually.
